Our Story
While the Constitution expressly provides the national legal framework for an inclusive society, there has been limited progress in promoting and protecting the rights of Women with Disabilities (WwDs).
WCC came about when a few women with disabilities felt that women with disabilities needed a platform to speak out to create awareness in the community at large regarding disability rights so as to ensure that the same aren’t infringed. The organization was then registered in 2001 under the Kenyan laws.
The membership of WCC disabilities is all inclusive of the various types of disabilities i.e deaf, blind, physical, albinism, intellectual, psychosocial disability etc. Over 1300 women and girls living with disabilities across the 47 counties have so far registered with the organization.

Improve lives of women with disabilities through capacity building, awareness raising, advocacy and development programs.
Leadership & Governance
WCC has embraced the principles of leadership and governance to ensure effective and meaningful inclusion of persons with disabilities including women with disabilities in political and public life, influencing policies and decisions, advocating for change, organizing regional alliances and increasing their participation in mainstream development projects that directly impact their lives.
Leadership and governance creates a culture of inclusion and diversity of participants.
This program has 6 priority areas: Political Participation, Economic Empowerment, Access to Information, Equality & Non-discrimination, Social Protection, Environment & Transport.
These priority areas ensure mainstreaming and inclusion of women with disabilities, both in policy and implementation.
The program is also aimed at strengthening capacities of women with disabilities and equipping them with skills to run for political office.
WCC has developed a policy platform which is an advocacy instrument for disabled people’s organizations (DPOs) to engage with national and county governments to ensure the inclusion of women with disabilities in development processes.
The platform ensures that the voices and rights of women with disabilities are enshrined in policies development and implementation processes at national and county levels.
Sexual & Reproductive Health Services
Promoting awareness of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights among Women and Girls with Disabilities.
WCC builds capacity of service providers on Disability Inclusion to achieve meaningful inclusivity as Women with Disabilities seek Sexual and Reproductive Health services.
With the help of existing laws in the country WCC lobby and advocate for non-discriminatory and equality in accessing disability-friendly health services.
Gender Based Violence
This program addresses the vulnerability of women and girls with disability to violence as we empower them on their rights.
WCC also uses multi-sectoral approach to ensure every stakeholder including duty bearers effectively and efficiently play their role in preventing and responding to violence against women and girls with disabilities.
Economic Empowerment
This program seeks to build capacity of women with disabilities in regards to financial capability so that they can have a bargaining power when it comes to claiming their rightful space in all spheres of life.
Tackling poverty dynamics in the presence of socio-economic, cultural or political deprivation that affects Women with Disabilities in Kenya.
WCC has created avenues through which women with disabilities can realize their economic life goals.
Today more than 500 women with disabilities around the country are economically empowered and they too have a voice in the society.
